When you fly in First Class, other than the more spacious seat and lavatory, it also comes with other perks such as better amenities. Below are some of them. (Note that I will cover the amenity kits in a later post because the photos I had taken would have given out what the cabin attendants (CAs) did to surprise me)
Sleepwear/Pajamas
Pajamas provided to JAL First Class Passengers. |
In order to help you relax more and sleep comfortably, the CAs would present you the sleepwear (pajamas) during boarding. You could change it before departure or could simply ask for it whenever you want.

JAL uses its own brand of pajamas. It is presented in a cloth bag in white and grey. Unbutton the bag, you can find the top and bottom of the pajamas inside.

The top of the pajamas actually is a cardigan with a zipper. It has a very simple design with a JAL First Class logo on the chest. The pants are in black. I believe there's only one size for the pajamas since the CA didn't ask for my size or maybe they are trained to recognize the size LOL. This is made of 100% pure cotton and was exclusively designed by the designer Aoshi Kudo. Of course, you are allowed to take home the pajamas.
Slippers

Shoehorn for JAL First Class passengers. |
Of course, slippers are provided to every First Class passengers as well. However, other than a different packaging, the slippers are identical to the ones provided in Business Class and Premium Economy. I guess it is nice to have a pouch to carrier these (or others since these are meant to be disposable) slippers around. Inside the pouch, you can also find the same shoehorn provided in other premium classes.
I could understand some people may feel disappointed since there's no First Class exclusive slippers. Would be nice if at least JAL could make a different color one for its First Class passengers. But then I guess this is something doesn't really affect the inflight experience and would save more if only 1 type of slippers is made. Not a big deal for me personally.
Leather Portfolio Binder
JAL uses a leather portfolio binder to hold menus, immigration forms and a thank you note. |
Inside of the JAL First Class leather portfolio binder. |
After the seat belt sign has turned off, the CAs will start distributing menus, immigration and custom forms, inflight shopping catalog, and a thank you note. These all come in a leather portfolio binder with a JAL First Class logo on it. As you can see, you can see, there's really not much practical use of this binder. All you could use it for is to carry a few pieces of paper just like what JAL does. I don't think this is a gift for the passengers, although I have read about report on passenger taking this home with him/her, which I did not.
A personal thank you note from the cabin attendant |
Inside the binder, you could also find a personal thank you note signed by all three CAs. It is up to the CAs to decorate this notes. Mine chose to use some paper crane origami stickers to decorate mine. Not sure if they do that to Japanese passengers or not, but the CAs signed mine in both Japanese Kanji and Romaji, which I really appreciate.
Noise Canceling Headphones
Bose canceling headphones are used in JAL First Class |
Another item disturbed after takeoff is the noise canceling headphones for the inflight entertainment system. Just like American Airlines, JAL also uses the excellent Bose noise canceling headphones in First Class. But this is a different model that AA uses. The model used in JAL First Class is QuietComfort 2 (QC2). Although it is not the latest Bose model, it is still far superior than some other generic (or branded like the Panasonic ones used in JAL Business Class) noise canceling headsets used on other carriers.

JAL calls this customized Bose headphones the JetSet II. |

Inside the carrying case, you could find the customized Bose QC2 headphones with JAL logos on them. The wires are already attached. There's also a user manual in case you aren't familiar with the headsets. Interestingly, JAL has dubbed this Bose headsets as JetSet II, which I wasn't aware of until now. I have never seen JAL uses this name before (maybe it was used in the original press release when JAL started offering Bose noise canceling headsets?)
Since I carry my own Bose QuietComfort 15, which is a later (and presumably better) model, I didn't use the JetSet II during the flight.
Amenity Kits
JAL has a male and female version of amenity kits for its First Class passengers. |
Of course, there's amenity kits for the First Class passengers as well. But unfortunately I couldn't go into details in this post. The only photos I have with the kits would reveal what the surprise from CA was and I don't have both kits with me now so I can't re-take the photos. But I could give you a peak. The kit on the left is the male version while the one on the right is the female one :)
Next up will be the drink menu.
