There were two special Japan Airlines (JAL) 787 flight that took off yesterday. The first one is commencement flight of the recently unveiled JAL x Ghibli special decal JET (JA828J) for the SORA wo TOBU (Fly the Skies) project. And the second one is the launch of 787 service to Singapore. Below are the video and links to pictures of these two commencement flights.
During the official unveil event, JAL announced the commencement flight for the JAL x Ghibli special decal JET will be JL023 from Tokyo Haneda (HND) to Beijing (PEK) on October 14 2012. The flight departed HND at 09:17 from gate 114 and arrived PEK at 12:04, 1 minute before the scheduled arrival time. Below is a nice 1080p HD YouTube video taken by earlgreyv3 of the taxiing and takeoff of the commencement flight
JAL has also uploaded photos of Saturday's unveil event on their official Facebook page. You can even see some behind the scene photos of how the plane was decorated. Just like most of the other special liveries, JAL uses some high quality 3M stickers instead of re-painting the plane. There are 50 stickers on each side of the JAL x Ghibli special decal JET. Japanese site Aviation Wire has taken some pictures of this commencement flight too.
The second commencement flight of the day was JL035 from Tokyo Haneda (HND) to Singapore (SIN). It was operated with JA827J. The flight departed HND at 00:06, 16 minutes behind schedule, from gate 113 and arrived SIN at 06:03, 3 minutes behind scheduled arrival time. The first JAL 787 scheduled service was greeted with water canon salute at SIN. A press conference was held and passengers departing from SIN to HND were presented with commemorative gifts. JAL Asia has uploaded pictures of the arrival taken by the SIN airport on their official Facebook page.
Also Singapore news website Strait Times has an album of the commencement flight including reporters trying out the Shell Flat NEO seats on the 787 and the captain disembarking. You can check it out here.
It's very hard to paint the special livery. So I guess 3M sticker is the best solution. Unlike this one, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilXDziiS7H0
ReplyDeleteThat A330 probably has the most difficult pattern with all the scales and stuff.
Yes, Yuchuan. They usually only use actual paint for the special livery when they plan to keep it for a long time, e.g. KA case. It's more economical to use sticker if they will only be around for 6 months or so :)
