Yes we did it again! Two years in a row, Japan Airlines (JAL) received the top honor of flightstats.com's On-time Performance Service Awards for Major International. And J-Air also win the most on-time service award for regional airlines in Asia, which is a new category this year!

This year JAL has achieved an on-time performance of 89.90%, a slight drop from last year's 90.95%. But that is still enough to beat the 32 major international airlines which compete in this category. Flightstats.com considered a flight being on time if it is arrived no later than 15 minutes after its scheduled arrival time. JAL operated 180,343 flights last year and has achieved this impressive on-time arrival rate with the help of the passengers (yes that's us!) :)

This year, flightstats.com also added a new category for regional airlines in Asia. J-Air, JAL Express (JEX), and Japan Transocean Air (JTA) are all in the top 5 with J-Air winning the award with an on-time performance of 93.32%!

Below are the results of the categories JAL competes in

Arrival Performance among Major International Airlines
Winner: Japan Airlines (JAL) [89.90%]
Finalists: Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Qatar, Air New Zealand, Scandinavian Airlines, Singapore Airlines

Arrival Performance among Major Asian Airlines
Winner: Japan Airlines (JAL) [89.90%]
Finalists: Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Korean Air Lines

Arrival Performance among Regional Asian Airlines
Winner: J-Air [93.32%]
Finalists: J-Air, JAL Express (JEX), Air Nippon Network, Bangkok Airways, Japan Transocean Air (JTA)

This time JAL responds pretty quickly to this news (Last year they waited till April to issue a press release). A special page regarding this top honor is up on JAL website (Japanese only) and they have already issued a press release (Japanese, English).

“We could not have achieved this without the understanding and cooperation of valued passengers who arrive at their boarding gates promptly, and without the dedication and efforts of our employees,” said Masaru Onishi. “We would like to thank them for ensuring the on-time departures and arrivals of our flights and thereby help us retain this title for a second year.”

As JAL president said, they could not have achieved this without the cooperations of the passengers. And remember, time is eco! So by arriving at the gate 30 minutes before boarding an international flight and 10 minutes before boarding a domestic flight, we can help save the environment and help JAL to once again beat other carriers on on-time performance this year! Let's work together and help JAL to be the most on-time carrier once again in 2011!
