Hina Matsuri, also known as Girls' Day or Doll Festival, is a traditional Japanese festival held on March 3 to wish a healthy and prosperous growth for young girls. Japan Airlines will once again organize a special flight to celebrate this festival.
The special JAL flight (JL1803) is a domestic flight from Haneda to Kumamoto. The flight will depart Haneda at 09:30 on March 3. What makes this flight special is that it will be prepared by mainly female staffs (looks like Captain and some maintenance staff are males).
This is not the first time JAL organized a special flight for Hina Matsuri. You can find details of the event and see pictures from last year's event on JAL website (in Japanese). Below is the news report (in Japanese) of last year's event.
When can JAL organize a flight that is 100% prepared by female staffs? Which is harder? Finding a female captain or team of female maintenance team? According to Japan Times, JAL had 12 female co-pilots and cadets as of last year. One of them could be promoted to captain in a few years. 30 out of 31 of last year's maintenance team are female. Looks like there will be a race to see who can replace the last male in the team :)
